The History of the Jews, as a determinate group called Iudaei, is a topic of little interest in the Latin chronicles since St. Jerome down to the 12th Century. The biblical history of the populus Dei signifies and announces the history of the Church. The post-biblical history of the Jews has to come to an end at the historical coming if Christ. On the contrary Hugh of Fleury takes into account the Jews as a consistent and comprehensive entity and an object of a specific historical interest from Abraham until the destruction of Jerusalem in AD 70. Hugh emphasizes the historical continuity of the Jewish institutions, and presents them as figures of structures of the Church which have similar functions and may appear as their historical successors.
