This paper is placed at the end of the extensive research presented in the volume Milano. Piazza Duomo prima del Duomo. It proposes a reconstruction of the space and architectural context of the Baptistery of San Giovanni alle Fonti, where Augustine was baptized by Ambrose (387), in light of the catechesis documented in Ambrosian writings and the material remains uncovered by archaeological research. While the steps of the Christian initiation ceremony are clearly outlined in the Ambrosian texts and confirmed by the archaeological remains, reconstructing the ceremony in detail within the surviving structures still raises some unresolved questions...
